The Annual Booksale

A little Tennyson Birthday Book printed in 1883 with gold-edged pages and quotes by the poet throughout. Pristine copies of some old favorites which have been reread to tatters over the years. Children’s books in good condition. A pile of coffee-table books and magazines with excellent photographs. An entire bag of paperback fiction to take along on travels.

Those are only a few of the treasures you could have discovered in past years at the Friends of the Library’s annual used book sale. It has been the Friends’ biggest fundraising event of the year, and promised something for everyone.

For several years the Friends were able to share a storage space with the Rotary Club to store books donated during the year for the book sale. But that storage space is no longer available, and the library has only been able to accept donations of a few books at a time. This has meant that holding a large one-time book sale has become untenable.

Two summers ago, we established a presence at the Truckee Thursdays event in downtown Truckee last year. Thisyear no one stepped up to coordinate our participation in this popular event. We are optimistic that someone will step up to spearhead a Friends of the Library booth next summer where we could sell used books.
