Lucky Day Books & Adult Bestsellers

The excitement that follows a new great book is wonderfully contagious, but as all book lovers know, it means the library copy won't be easy to come by. In fact, it might be just about impossible: Nevada County Library wait lists that stretch as long as forty people are not unheard of!

Reducing your wait time

The Truckee Library Bestseller's Program, paid for by the Friends, is our answer. We purchase and maintain a small collection of current bestsellers that can only be obtained by walking in and asking for them. Not only does that mean that borrowers at the larger branches in Nevada City and Grass Valley won't be whisking them away, but also that the line for any book is never more than one reader long!

Summer & Winter Reading Programs

The Friends sponsor the Truckee Library’s reading programs during the summer and winter seasons. The reading programs are a challenge to motivate readers of all ages to read more. Prizes are even awarded at the end of the season!

Read Up!

The Nevada County Read Up! Program is supported by the Friends of the Truckee Library.

More than 30 Truckee community members volunteer as literacy tutors to students who wish to develop increased literacy abilities. Over time, the nurturing relationship between tutor and student turns into a strong bond of mutual respect and friendship. Most of the tutor-student literacy teams meet weekly, some more often, for a minimum of one hour. Both tutor and student work as a team to develop goals, objectives, and lesson plans.

Interested in becoming a Read Up! tutor? Sign up online or contact Xenia Lal at at (530) 582-7846.
