More Than Books: A Modern Library for a Growing, Resilient Truckee
Truckee’s next chapter starts with you. Join us in building the space our community needs to be connected and resilient— because great communities build great libraries.
Our Library Is Too Small
We’ve outgrown our space.
Truckee’s library can only hold 54 people—far too few for a town of nearly 20,000. Programs fill quickly, study areas are limited, and there's no room for meetings, quiet reading, or expanding the collection. Our library is already too small to meet the current demand, and as our population grows, it will only get worse.
A modern library isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity.
To serve our community today—and in the future—we need more space, more resources and room to grow.
Our Kids Deserve Better
The current library can’t support our youth.
One table for teens. Story time consistently over capacity. No quiet space for tutoring or after-school learning.
Families rely on the library.
For many, it’s the only place in town offering free, year-round programs, homework help, and a safe space to gather. With 36% of TTUSD students considered underserved, the library is a lifeline.
But it’s small size and out-of-the-way location make it hard to reach—and even harder to meet the growing needs of our community.
The new library will change that.
Located in Truckee River Regional Park, on the Legacy Trail and next to a bus stop, it’ll be safer, more accessible, and built for the future of our youth.
Built for Safety and Resilience
In an emergency, we have nowhere to go.
Truckee lacks a public facility with backup power that’s ADA-accessible and built to stay open when disaster strikes.
The new library will fill that gap.
It will be a reliable community hub—offering support, safety, and connection during wildfires, outages, extreme heat and extreme cold, and everyday life.
This is more than a library.
It’s an investment in Truckee’s safety, equity, and resilience.

Whitney Foehl, Luminary
“Libraries are no longer just a collection of free books, although that in itself is a miracle, but a library is a meeting space, a collaboration center, a gathering spot for community events and workshops, a media outlet, a resource for information of all kinds, a friendly spot in the sun. All of it.”
